Game 1:
Penn State Hazleton put together a clean, efficient performance on both sides of the ball Friday night, defeating Penn State Schuylkill 6–2 behind a complete-game effort from Jordan Castrine.
Hazleton applied offensive pressure early with a lead of 3-2 after three innnings. In the fifth inning, Cooper Ansbach came through with an RBI double to score Ryan Racho and extend the lead to 4–2. The offense added insurance in the seventh, capitalizing on patience at the plate and situational execution. A bases-loaded walk forced in a run, and Brandon Unger followed with a sacrifice fly to cap the scoring at 6–2.
Ryan Racho led the way offensively with three hits and two runs scored, while Ansbach reached base three times and drove in a run. Max Cuevas and Unger each contributed RBIs as part of a well-rounded attack.
While the offense was opportunistic, the story of the game was Jordan Castrine's dominance on the mound. The right-hander went the distance, allowing just two runs on four hits while striking out three and limiting damage after the third inning. He effectively mixed pitches and worked out of minor trouble, keeping Schuylkill off balance throughout.
Game 2:
Penn State Schuylkill walked off with a hard-fought 4–3 win over Penn State Hazleton in the second game of Friday night's doubleheader, using late-inning execution to secure the split.
Hazleton struggled to generate offense throughout, collecting just four hits. After three scoreless innings, Hazleton broke through in the fourth, capitalizing on a wild pitch to score Aiden Rodriguez before Brandon Unger drove in another run on a groundout to make it 2–0. Schuylkill answered immediately in the bottom half of the inning, tying the game at 2–2 and shifting momentum back to the home side. Hazleton regained a slim edge in the sixth inning, once again taking advantage of a Schuylkill miscue. Cooper Ansbach came around to score on another wild pitch, giving Hazleton a 3–2 lead despite limited offensive production. Schuylkill would tie to game in the seventh to send the game into extra innings, where they came out on top ending the game 4-3.
On the mound, Trent Strohecker was effective for Hazleton, turning in six strong innings. He allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits while striking out seven, keeping Schuylkill off the scoreboard outside of the fourth inning rally. However, defensive issues behind him proved costly, as Hazleton committed two errors that contributed to unearned runs.
